Formal education starts, as with the rest of Europe, at the age of seven. Children remain in the 'golden room' of childhood for the first seven years and this is reflected in the way the classes are structured.

Instead of learning the academic skills of writing and reading immediately, children are allowed continue in their world of play which is so critical to their development as happy, well-adjusted individuals. It is only when children enter Class 1 that they begin to formally learn reading and writing.

Naturally, parents wonder how the classes in our school relate to the state system. This table may be of some assistance.
