PFA Recruitment

Holywood Steiner School PFA (Parents & Friends Association) are looking for a new committee team from September 26th 2023.

The Goal…

to help with fundraising to improve the learning environment at our school, through fun activities and events.  The PFA will foster a spirit of local community by keeping parents up to date with any news or activities; so that we can build a strong and friendly working relationship between parents / guardians and teachers in order to support our children.

What is the PFA?

The Parents and Friends Association is group of volunteer parents / guardians and friends of the school who work together with teachers to make the school a better environment for our children.  At Holywood Steiner School, all parents / guardians are automatically PFA volunteer members.  We have a core team of committee members voted in annually and consist of three named officers; the chair, the treasurer and secretary, as well as 3-4 committee members.

Why is the PFA important?

To make our school a better place for our children and to give our children better resources.  As an independent school we receive no government funding so the PFA steps in to help raise extra funding to bring our school to the next level.

Examples of PFA Projects:

The PFA supported these items at school:

  1. Playground benches

  2. New Basketball Court

  3. Defibrillator

Our PFA supports these events along with the school:

Would you like to make lunch for our teachers?

One of the lovely traditions at our school is that from time to time, parents provide a lunch for our teachers to say thank you for their wonderful work.  The tradition stems from the early days of the school in the late 1970's when some teachers lived in the school and many parents fed them.  Thankfully these days the teachers get to go home after their hard work each day, but as they work to a tight schedule and don't have much time for lunch, the tradition continued where parents dropped in some food as a treat and a thank you from time to time. It ties in with the tradition of the Steiner philosophy of parents being in service to their children’s teachers.

Having had to be stopped due to covid, the tradition started back in late September and our teaching team of 18 teachers have been treated to a variety of homemade treats.  The latest offering came from Aaron, Viki & Eddi Fran who dropped in a delicious roasted butternut squash soup topped off with creme fraiche & chilli, with a homemade loaf on the side.

We are calling out for volunteers to commit to providing a lunch for teachers to begin with on a monthly basis.  Please don't panic!  It doesn't have to be a culinary feast, but some simple bread and cheese or a hearty vegetable soup. It might also be nice to pair up with another family and provide a few items together?  Or one person might like to provide food but cannot drop it to the school so another might volunteer to collect it and leave it in?  It could be a community effort.  And the school kitchen is well equipped if you need to borrow anything.

We would love to fill up our calendar for the next few months to keep the tradition going.  If you would like to volunteer, or even have a question about how it works, please contact the PFA on PFA@holywood-steiner.co.uk.

We look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions please just ask.
